Course Overview & Structure

Verification results can reopen an earlier 510(k) determination.

Post-clearance changes require teams to determine whether the modified device remains supported by existing clearance or crosses FDA’s threshold for another submission.

The session structures change assessment across intended use, labeling, technology, materials, manufacturing, software, cumulative modifications, risk analysis, testing, and documentation.

The session follows a device modification from initial characterization through technical assessment and final regulatory determination. Different change types are considered alongside risk analysis, verification and validation evidence, interactions among accumulated modifications, and the documented reasoning supporting whether existing clearance continues to apply.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
  • FDA principles for post-clearance change assessment
  • Intended use, indications, and labeling changes
  • Technology, materials, performance, and manufacturing modifications
  • Software and firmware change assessment
  • Risk analysis for safety and effectiveness impact
  • Cumulative impact of multiple related changes
  • Testing and design-control evidence supporting the determination
  • Documentation of no-new-510(k) conclusions
Who Should Attend

Designed for professionals responsible for evaluating, implementing, reviewing, documenting, or approving changes to 510(k)-cleared medical devices.
